Abstract
This paper presents a comparison of the loads acting on transmission line tower body and conductors based on BS 8100, IS 802 and MS 1553. The design load and resistance formula has been improved based on research and have been included in the latest edition of the codes of practices. The design considers reliability, security and safety conditions. The objective of this work is met by choosing one 275 kV typical Double Circuit Lattice Steel Tower. This tower is assumed to be located in Peninsular Malaysia. The wind loading acting on tower panels will be calculated using the three codes of practices and the tower model will be analyzed using Staad Pro software under normal and broken conductor conditions. The tower deflections are determined to identify cases which are most critical based on the loading conditions and whether it satisfies the limiting deflection criteria.
