Abstract

External risks to Large Engineering Projects (LEPs) are caused by interfacing between shareholders and generally eight other parties. The first step in Project initiation is to identify strategic risks and ability to mitigate these risks would enable the shareholders to proceed with the project. Failure to identify and mitigate the risks may result in losing the whole business. In this study fifteen case studies of LEPs were used to determine the most critical strategic risks. From the analysis of case studies twenty one critical strategic risks have been identified. The risks were ranked and the top 20% of risk exposure consisting of seven risks was taken as highest risk.
