Abstract

Geopolymer Concrete is a new technology in Concrete industry which was invented to overcome the environmental problems caused by Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) concrete. Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) is another type of construction material that has started to gain popularity in construction industry. Its ability to flow under its own weight and passing through reinforcement without the need of vibrator, offer numerous advantages to concreting process. The use of SCC not only reduces the construction time but also improves the quality and durability of the structure. This research was dedicated to develop Self Compacting Geopolymer Concrete (SCGC) utilizing low-calcium fly ash as primary binder thus eliminating the need of OPC. Parameters such as fly ash content and superplastisizer percentage were varied in order to identify the optimum mix proportion. MIRHA which is a product from burning of rice husk using microwave incinerator at 800°C was utilized as secondary binder which used to replace 5%, 7% and 10% of fly ash content. The potential of MIRHA as secondary binder in SCGC will be determined. The workability of fresh SCGC was evaluated by conducting workability test such as slump flow test, J-ring test, L-box test and V-funnel test. For the hardened SCGC concrete, compressive strength was evaluated at 2, 3, 7 and 28 day.
