Abstract
Gas-to-Liquid (GTL), in particular Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS)is a process of converting coal, natural gas and biomass derived synthesis gas into transportable liquid fuels. Depleting resources of crude oil and a growing demand for alternative sources of energy has encouraged renewed interest in the development of efficient GTL technology for clean fuel production via FTS. WHile the technology has matured over the past half century, it still struggles to compete with the crude oil market, with the catalyst deactivation being a major area of concern. Research has revealed taht cobalt based catalysts are the preferred choice for converting the natural gas derived synthesis gas. In this study novel vortex centrifugal bubbling reactor was used. The main goal of using this type of reactor was to increase the rate of mass-exchange between the phases. In the vortex reactor a highly dispersed gas-liquid mixture is produced and held in the field of centrifugal forces inside the vortex chamber. The operation of the vortex centrifugal device is based on the rotation of liquid by the gas flow.
