Abstract

A laterally aerated moving bed (LAMB) bioreactor is developed for continuous solid state fermentation (SSF) of palm kernel cake by Aspergillus flavus to degrade the complex sugar (mannan) component to simple sugar (mannose) component at a nominal capacity of 0.37 Kg of dry PKC per day. Sugar conversions upto 111.24% at an aeration rate of 10 LPM were obtained. SSF was performed at optimal conditions established from batch experiments.
