Abstract

The purpose of the study was to highlight shallow crustal structure and provide a district structural framework of Bukit Bunuh, Lenggong, Perak by using potential field methods. This area were selected as it appears significantly as a valley with several crater rings, located in between two major geological mountain formations of Peninsular Malaysia, which is the Titiwangsa Mountain Range and the Bintang Hill. Two potential field methods were used in this study which is magnetic and gravity survey. The magnetic and gravity surveys covered an area of approximately 6 km2. The data analysis involved in this study includes data reduction, leveling and smoothing. Two schemes of interpretation were carried out in this study, which is qualitatively and quantitatively. The qualitative interpretation is directly based on the anomaly pattern on the contour maps such as size, locality and shape. The quantitative interpretation is based on forward modeling and the imply model parameter were recognized from laboratory measurement. An output from both interpretations scheme shows a good correlation by featuring the same anomaly characteristic. Results from the potential field methods correlates well with borehole results and geophysical 2D resistivity surveys results on the study site. From the interpretation, the result shows the occurrence of restricted and orientated faulting structures on the basement rock.
