Abstract

In this study a computational model was developed to describe the motion of spherical particles, of different diameters and densities, in the liquid flow field generated by an axisymmetric, confined, submerged jet. Initially, a model was developed to predict the single (liquid) phase motion generated by the jet. The liquid velocity predictions were experimentally validated before proceeding to incorporate a coupled Lagrangian model to describe the motion of the particles. Finally, the model is currently being extended to include the influence of the particle on the fluid motion and the effect of particle-particle interactions.
