Abstract
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is now considered as a critical need for energy sustainability purposes and greenhouse policy. As projects pertaining to CCS are massively growing worldwide, it is a strong urge to develop and to enhance the monitoring techniques especially using AVO (amplitude versus offset), an additional and more sensitive method to quantify the presence of CO2 in the reservoir. This study focuses on tracking changes in P-wave velocity data during the injection of CO2 into Berea field
sandstone at different bedding orientations. P-wave velocity measurements were done on 2 core plugs,1 of which the bedding orientation was perpendicular and 1 of which was parallel to the bedding plane. Confining pressures were varied, indicating different values of depth in the real
reservoir. The data were then modelled using Gassmann’s theory and the reflection coefficient values were determined for each layer of the rock physics model.
