Abstract

Mobile service has produced significant impact in various industries. It has also gained growing demands for not only in telecommunication sector, but also numerous other sectors such as banking, business, entertainment, education and many others. The objective of this paper is to present yet another mobile system development to enhance current cathodic protection (CP) system. The developed system is able to send notification to technicians via SMS if there is any fault occurs in gas pipeline. The system has been developed in three-tier architecture and tested with functional testing. It is connected with CP system which functions to monitor CP measurements upon gas pipeline. If there is any fault detected by CP system, it will send instruction to the developed system, which will then invoke SMS notification delivery to technicians. The system has successfully been developed and believed can improve current CP system that requires human to manually perform the monitoring process. This study implies effectiveness and time saving as responsible personnel or technicians will be notified of any faults anytime and anywhere through mobile phones. For future work, it is recommended that the system will also be equipped with proactive notification delivery in which technicians will be notified if any faults are expected to occur.
