Abstract

This paper explores the notion of identity in communities of practice as proposed by Wenger (1998). Drawing on Wenger's theory of identity, I will explore the construction of identity based on the social practices in which the ESL students in this research are engaged in, as a community of practice. Therefore, I will explore how the learning and using of English is entwined with the construction of ESL students' social identities.
