Abstract

Load capacity of partially textured slip parallel slider and concentric journal bearing is estimated using narrow groove theory (NGT). The overall pressure distribution in a hydrodynamic bearing using NGT provides a good approximation to the actual pressure distribution around bearing with large but finite number of grooves. The non-dimensional pressure expressions are derived based on one-dimensional analysis. The partially textured slip parameters used in the analysis are: non-dimensional texture length; land with slip to recess region ratio; non-dimensional slip coefficient; and non-dimensional depth of recess. Partially textured slip is effective in the case of parallel slider and concentric journal bearing to yield load capacity
