Abstract

Steel girders for long span bridges are a convenient method of construction to overcome the problems during launching. The steel girders have the advantage of fast progress and easy launching efforts due to its relative light sections. One of the most important and difficult problems faced in fabricating steel girders is the planning and scheduling of materials and fabrication process. Scheduling of steel fabrication are planned and studied for six bridges in a package of a multiple projects comprising 5 packages. The multiple - project case study has total of 45 bridges in five packages in Sabah, Malaysia. There are six bridges with steel girders are at various locations within the state. The paper highlights the problematic areas in planning plate girders fabrication works for multiple projects. This case study will help to identify solutions from the lessons learned and actions that did and did not work well. This subject has great value to the construction community in managing and implementing similar projects successfully.
