This article considers three aspects: Scientific calculators today; Computer programs for mathematics, eg.
Mathcad; Pocket calculators of tomorrow. Calculators have been around for about twenty years; they are
about to undergo a significant advance. In order to appreciate the significance of this we can make a
comparison with the mathematics performed by computers.The author is familiar with a program entitled
”Mathcad” and so this program is referred to.
